I love this magazine/I hate this magazine
It comes with the morning paper and sometimes even dethrones my morning addiction, the crossword.
I just have to flip through the super-thin pages, look at the gorgeous women and see what they are, or are not, wearing before my breathing returns to normal. Of course this is all about money.
How much money do I need?
Let’s say I wanted to buy everything in the magazine, what are we talking about, a hundred thousand, five hundred thousand, a million, more than a million? It’s not important. No matter how much it will cost, I haven’t got it. And if I continue not buying Lotto tickets, it’s unlikely that I will ever have it.
What I really want
So I page through the magazine looking for something that I really want from the huge selection of expensive items. Chanel? Nah, not even the woman with the rope around her waist and definitely not the guy. Prada? I can’t see the model’s face. Louis Vuitton? Nope! Rolex? This one is different, both the model and the watch are possibilities. I’ll put them both on my wish-list. Salvatore Ferragamo? No thanks. And a note to the model – those shoes will break your ankles, dear. And so it goes. The models are gorgeous, mostly knock-kneed and all a little on the anorexic side.
The ads
The photographers are super creative and the many watches advertised are all smiling at ten minutes to ten. The Mercedes SLS AMG looks stunning with its gull-wing doors (and a price tag of about $200,000). With snow piling up in the yard outside, the beautiful picture in the India ad is a magnet – I would go for that at the drop of a hat. It may even be affordable.
Watch ads
I was fascinated at the watch by Avakian because it’s difficult to tell the time on it, so I went to their website to explore further. The website wasn’t working… I liked the Chopard watch, not that I would ever be seen wearing anything like this. I went to their website to investigate and had a great deal of trouble finding the watch advertised in the magazine. Then I tried to find a price on the internet. I gave up eventually, but it’s interesting to note that the replica watch distributors have better websites than the genuines. I remain watchless…
The articles
I even read a few of the articles. I was surprised too. “Boy Meets Girl” explains what’s going on in the world of fashion and also made it clear why I am “just not with it”. I enjoyed the article and interview with Julianne Moore.
Chopin
And on the back page I found what I was looking for – a trip to Warsaw to “Take a walk and follow the steps of Chopin in Warsaw”. It will be the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth close Warsaw in Poland. Now to find a reasonably priced tour…
